Water
Speed Sensor
The
Water Speed Sensor prototype is designed for use in a kayak
to gather data about environmental conditions and record sensor
input. The Water Speed Sensor is part of a proposed overall
sensor package that detects position (using GPS), wind, and
heading. Because kayaks are used in fresh water and salt water,
a venturi tube water speed sensor had to be used instead of
an electromagnetic speed sensor. The sensor’s key job is to
measure the pressure differential using a silicon differential
pressure sensor in order to determine the velocity. A Tiny
3687 microprocessor converts the voltage output from the differential
pressure sensor.
