ZoneTherm:
A Home Heating System Controller
The
3687-based ZoneTherm was designed to allow experimentation
with a home HVAC system in order to determine comfortable
temperature levels. Interestingly, the low-cost system can
be used to experiment with software and hardware applications
to test different options. Thermistor inputs for temperature
measurement and PWM outputs for controlling duct actuators
are included. For convenience, the ZoneTherm can be retrofit
into existing home heating systems. With a few low-cost mechanical
additions, the system provides basic thermostat functions,
multiple zones (i.e., measures and controls multiple zones
independently), and active airflow control. Air flowing through
up to five ducts can be controlled.
