Line Scan Width Measurements
With
a little ingenuity, a CCD line scan camera can be used to
measure objects. An H8/3067 microcontroller controls the timing
for driving the CCD line scan as well as the analog processing
to convert an image to a binary TTL signal. The signal represents
the width of the object relative to the pixels in a one-line
image. By synchronizing the timing of the binary image signal
and the timing signals, it is possible to use the edges of
the signals to count the number of pixels across the image.
This tells you where the object starts and ends, effectively
measuring it.
