From a telephone message-forwarding system to an electrocardiogram, Renesas truly is “everywhere you can imagine.” For more proof, look no further than the list of amazing designs that placed in the Renesas H8 Design 2003 Contest.

Late last year, some of the world’s best and brightest designers submitted their projects for the competition. Their H8-based designs were postmarked from such diverse locations as the U.S., Thailand, and India.

After much deliberation, the judges awarded 12 prizes based on technical merit, originality, usefulness, cost-effectiveness, and design optimization. In the end, however, Robert Lacoste sits alone at the top. His Grand Prize-winning SMT Reflow Oven Controller is an ingenious H8/3687-based controller that transforms a conventional infrared toaster into a reflow oven.

Congratulations to Robert and all of the other winners!
