APPLICATION
SUBLAYER
The
application support sublayer, which is at the lowest
level of the application layer, handles binding and
discovery. The former involves matching devices based
on how they’re supposed to interact. For example,
a light switch doesn’t need to control a TV, but an
audio-visual system remote can talk to the TV, a light
dimmer, or a smoke alarm. The APS also relays messages
from devices that cannot talk directly to each other.
This is part of the mechanism that enables mesh networking.
