IrDA TRANCEIVER

The TFDU7100 is a new device integrating a remote control receiver and an IrDA transceiver into a single, three-lens, surface-mount package. Integrated within the TFDU7100’s eight-pin package are two high-speed PIN photodiodes, an infrared emitter, an IrDA control IC, and a remote control IC. For remote control, the TFDU7100 meets Microsoft’s Media Center specifications by receiving signals with carrier frequencies from 20 to 60 kHz over a minimum distance of 5 m. Its maximum receiving distance is 18 m in the 36- to 38-kHz range. For IrDA communication, the TFDU7100 supports all IrDA data rates up to 4 Mb over the inherently secure distance of 1 m.

To simplify the transition to the TFDU7100, the package is the same size and pad pitch as the Vishay Intertechnology 4 Mb. Providing added flexibility, the device can be mounted with lenses in side- or top-looking orientation. The TFU7100 IrDA plus RC transceiver operates from 2.7 to 5.5 V over the full temperature range of –25° to 85°C.

The TFDU7100 IrDA plus RC transceiver is available now. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $1.50 each for 1 million units per year.
