FIRST
FAMILY OF 16-BIT PIC MCUs
The
first family of 16-bit PIC microcontrollers, the PIC24,
can address the growing performance needs of embedded
designers. The PIC24 16-bit microcontroller family—which
debuts with 22 general-purpose devices—offers up to
40-MIPS performance, 16 KB of RAM, 256 KB of flash program
memory, and up to 100-pin packages.

The
PIC24 family comprises two series. The PIC24F offers
a cost-effective step up in performance, memory, and
peripherals for many applications that are pushing the
envelope of 8-bit microcontroller capabilities. For
more demanding applications, the PIC24H offers 40-MIPS
performance, more memory, and additional peripherals
such as CAN communication modules.
The
controllers feature two UART ports, two SPI ports, two
I2C ports, and up to two CAN ports. They
also include a real-time clock calendar. The PIC24F
offers a 16-channel, 10-bit ADC. The PIC24H offers two
16-channel, 12-bit ADCs.
Pricing
in 10,000-piece quantities starts at $4.55 for the PIC24F and $5.16 for the PIC24H.
