The first family of 16-bit PIC microcontrollers, the PIC24, can address the growing performance needs of embedded designers. The PIC24 16-bit microcontroller family—which debuts with 22 general-purpose devices—offers up to 40-MIPS performance, 16 KB of RAM, 256 KB of flash program memory, and up to 100-pin packages. 

The PIC24 family comprises two series. The PIC24F offers a cost-effective step up in performance, memory, and peripherals for many applications that are pushing the envelope of 8-bit microcontroller capabilities. For more demanding applications, the PIC24H offers 40-MIPS performance, more memory, and additional peripherals such as CAN communication modules.

The controllers feature two UART ports, two SPI ports, two I²C ports, and up to two CAN ports. They also include a real-time clock calendar. The PIC24F offers a 16-channel, 10-bit ADC. The PIC24H offers two 16-channel, 12-bit ADCs.

Pricing in 10,000-piece quantities starts at $4.55 for the PIC24F and $5.16 for the PIC24H.
