NEW GENERATION OF FULLY DIFFERENTIAL AMPLIFIERS

The THS4509 is the industry’s lowest noise, lowest distortion, fully differential amplifier for driving high-speed ADCs up to 100 MHz. With one-third less settling time than previous industry-leading, fully differential amplifiers, the 1.9-GHz THS4509 is ideal for demanding applications (e.g., test and measurement, medical imaging, wireless infrastructure, and industrial).

The THS4509 delivers an unmatched input-referred voltage noise of 2 nV/rtHz and second- and third-order harmonic distortion at 70 MHz of –80 and –87 dBc (2 VPP into 200-W load), respectively. It also delivers a 1% settling time of 2 ns with 2-V output step. When driving the ADS5500 14-bit ADC at 125 mega samples per second (MSPS) and 70-MHz input frequency, the THS4509 and ADS5500 system achieves unprecedented levels of performance. The single-tone, spurious-free dynamic range is 81 dBc. The two-tone SFDR with 5-MHz tone spacing is 89 dBc. The signal-to-noise ratio SNR is 70.1 dBFS.

The architecture of the THS4509 decouples the gain, output common-mode voltage, and output impedance-matching issues from one another, enabling you to easily set them independently. In addition, the device will perform single-ended input-to-differential-output conversion to enable DC-coupled data acquisition systems. Along with the noise and distortion performance, these features enable you to ensure accurate low-level signal measurements and high signal fidelity while greatly simplifying the design process and reducing the overall solution size.

The device is available in a 16-pin QFN package for $3.75 in 1,000-unit quantities. An evaluation module is also available.
