XBLOKs CUT PC/104 EXPANSION COSTS

The XBLOK is a new product family that provides cost-effective expansion to the PC/104 platforms. The tiny modules are only 1.65² × 3.55², which is 44% the size of a standard PC/104 expansion module. Up to two functional additions, like Ethernet and digital I/O, may be added to a PC/104 system, increasing the stack height by only 0.6². This is half that of two traditional modules and with a cost savings of nearly 40%.

The XBLOKs are designed purposely so that there is a 0.75² gap between opposing modules. This offers a significant advantage to those who have higher power processors. In the traditional solution, the heat is trapped under the first expansion module overheating both the CPU and expansion modules. The XBLOK gap enables true conduction cooling and the elimination of hot spots. This can be critical when A/D cards are stacked above the CPU.

Available XBLOKs include 10/100BaseT Ethernet, quad USB 2.0, 48-line DIO, a dual serial port, and a failsafe, high-speed, battery-backed static RAM disk. XBLOK prices range from $60 to $104. XBLOK modules are all rated for –40° to 85°C operation.
