BRUSHLESS
MOTORS WITH NEODYMIUM MAGNETS
The
new EC-max 40-mm brushless motors deliver the
performance and lifetime of a brushless motor, but at
a reduced cost because of improved automated manufacturing
processes. The motors are electronically commutated,
thus enabling extremely long motor life, because there
are simply no mechanical brushes to wear out. Hall effect
sensors are built into the motor in order to provide
feedback to the control electronics. By assembling the
motor so that the coils are outside the rotor, good
heat dissipation and high overload capability is attained.

The
motor, which has a stainless steel housing, is 88 mm
long and has a diameter of 40 mm. Its continuous output
power is 120 W. Its maximum speed is 12,000 RPM.
The maximum continuous torque is up to 195 mNm,
depending on the winding. The ambient temperature range
is –40° to 100°C. Using high-energy neodymium magnets
results in an extremely responsive mechanical time constant
of 5 ms, while minimizing overall size. Using electronic
commutation generates minimum electrical noise. Motors
are offered with several different windings to optimize
the desired speed with available voltage. Complementing
the motors are gear heads, encoders, brakes, and control
electronics.
Because
of their high performance and long lifetime, the EC-max
40-mm motors are well suited for a variety of applications,
including automation, biomedical devices, pick and place
machines, robotics, pumps, and semiconductor manufacturing.
