NEW QUARTZ CRYSTAL PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY

The new FQ Series of quartz crystals are created using a new packaging technology that provides a cost reduction of up to 20% or more over conventional ceramic packaging, as well as eliminating the recurring problems of ceramic shortages. The series is initially offered in three of the most popular crystal package sizes, each available in two or four pad configurations: 10 × 4.5 mm (FQ1045), 5 × 7 mm (FQ7050), and 6 × 3.5 mm (FQ6035), with smaller sizes now under development.

The new FQ series is fully RoHS-compliant. It offers complete pad compatibility with existing ceramic packages. Developed to effectively combat both cost and availability pressures, the new crystals yield costs savings of 15% in quantities of 10,000 to 20,000, and savings of 20% in quantities of 50,000.

Ideal for a wide range of crystal applications (e.g., HDD, PDA, set-top boxes, security systems, and more), the FQ Series offers low-profile construction as well as weight savings over ceramic packages. Depending on the package size, the crystals are available in frequencies from 3.2 to 49 MHz, with a 30-PPM tolerance at 25°C. Standard stability is 30 PPM at temperatures from 0° to 70°C, with tighter stabilities available on special order. Extended temperature versions for use from –40° to 85°C are also available. The 5 mm × 7 mm FQ7050 crystals with frequencies of 8 MHz cost $0.19 in quantities of 50,000.
