UNIVERSAL ETHERNET CONTROL HEAD

The Universal Ethernet Control Head is a small 1.5² × 2.5² network-enabled board with integrated high-level support for character-type display, a matrix keypad, a card reader, a serial I/O, a parallel I/O, and an I2C. The TCP/IP network stack is specifically optimized for code efficiency, minimized-memory usage, and high performance while implementing all RFC requirements that affect host-to-host communications ensuring dependable operation with all standard TCP/IP hosts.

The display interface supports a number of displays. Controls such as cursor type, cursor location, and display clear can be issued discretely or embedded in the display text via escape sequences. The 4 × 4 self-scan matrix keypad interface is completely programmable and features conventional two-key lockout.

The card-reader subsystem handles bar code, magnetic stripe, and proximity (Wiegand) technologies. The flexible I/O architecture includes multiple 8-bit ports. Inputs and outputs may be combined on a given port. The serial port operates at all standard data rates and supports common character formats.

Network communications utilize TCP/IP over 10BaseT Ethernet. All system parameters can be remotely administered using an RS-232 console or over the network via telnet.

The netWorkBoard, which is used for development and evaluation, is a work board that supports all of the Control Head’s capabilities and features; it comes with everything needed to rapidly get the Control Head up and running on a TCP/IP Ethernet. The Control Head costs $70 in 100-piece quantities.
