DATA ACQUISITION WITH GPS TIME STAMPING

The PAR4CH and PARGPS modules form a low-cost data acquisition system that offers multichannel, 24-bit A/D conversion and the accurate GPS time stamping of data. The PAR4CH is a four-channel, 24-bit ADC with a converter-per-channel architecture. Crosstalk and settling problems commonly associated with multiplexed systems are eliminated with a dedicated ADC chip for each channel. Connecting to a standard PC parallel port, the PAR4CH also includes a large 2-MB buffer to insure against data loss. Continuous acquisition rates are user programmable from 0.1 Hz to 5 kHz. One- and eight-channel modules are also available.

If you need the accurate time stamping of acquired data, the PARGPS timing module is available. This module easily connects to the PAR4CH and PC and provides 10-µs accuracy time stamping along with other GPS parameters such as location and satellite count. The PARGPS connects to the digital I/O connector on the PAR4CH.

The modules are offered in rugged, compact, vinyl-covered steel desktop enclosures suitable for general applications. Bare boards are also available if you want to integrate the systems in their own applications.

Included with each system is extensive software support featuring both GUI and console-mode applications, which enables immediate data acquisition. Source code and user libraries are also included for custom development. The supplied software drivers, which are available for Windows 2000/XP and Linux, use true ring-0 kernel mode drivers for top performance. The PAR4CH and PARGPS cost $550 and $400, respectively.
