the half-wave rectifier, terminal Y of the transformer
is grounded, and terminal X swings between 14 and –14
V. With a bridge rectifier, both terminals swing between
ground and 14 V. This limits the charge on C2 to just
14 V, which is transferred to C3. +VB is now
only double the value of +VA instead of triple.
