Test Your EQ

Answer 3—A T1 signal uses alternate-mark-inverted (AMI) signaling, which means that return-to-zero (RZ) pulses that are 0.5 bit periods wide represent ones in the datastream. Successive pulses have opposite polarity in order to maintain a long-term DC average of zero. The raw data rate is 1.544 Mbps, which makes the bit period approximately 648 µs.
