7The
following hookup creates a 1-A current source whose terminals
will never have more than 1 V across them. If the terminal
voltage attempts to exceed 1 V, the excess current is
shunted by the diode through the voltage source.

The
following hookup creates a 1-V voltage source that will
never supply more than 1 A. If the load draws less than
1 A, the excess current from the current source is shunted
back around by the diode. If the load attempts to draw
more than 1 A, the diode stops conducting and the current
throughout the circuit is limited by the current source.
