Test Your EQ #161—Answer

Answer 7—For a given DC load and filter capacitor size, the peak-to-peak ripple voltage of a power factor controller is about one-fifth that of an ordinary bridge rectifier-type supply. Of course, this means that for a given level of acceptable ripple voltage, you can use one-fifth the capacitance.
