Test Your EQ #152— Answer

Answer 3

We're given that the forward power PF is 250 KW and the VSWR is 1.6 (the frequency is immaterial).

The reflection coefficient r (rho) is defined as the square root of the ratio of the reflected power (PR) and the forward power:

r = sqrt (PR / PF)

Solving for PR yields:

PR = r2 × PF

The standing wave ratio (SWR) is defined in terms of the reflection coefficient by:

SWR =

1 + |r|
______

1 - |r|

Solving for r yields:

|r| =

SWR – 1
_______
SWR + 1

Now we can plug in some numbers:

|r| =

1.6 – 1
______
1.6 + 1

= 0.23077

PR = 0.230772 × 250 kW = 13.313 kW
