The most common answer is 36 + 6 = 42 (i.e., you get 36 cigarette stubs and can make six more cigarettes from them). But the actual answer is 43. How? Well, you get 36 stubs from which you can make six cigarettes. From these six cigarettes you get six more stubs from which you can make one more cigarette!
