Test Your EQ #148— Answer

Answer 7

The Norton and the Thevenin sources are electrically indistinguishable. However, the Norton source dissipates energy even with no load and therefore will run warm. Use a thermometer to detect this. The Thevenin source dissipates no heat when it drives an open circuit, but dissipates 1W when short-circuited. The Norton source is the opposite. It dissipates 1W when nothing is connected and no heat when shorted.
