Digital Plus Q&A

Q: Where do I log in to access my issues?
A: Icons of Circuit Cellar covers will serve as access points to Digital Plus. These icons will be available on this page and the current issue icon will also be on the Circuit Cellar home page. Clicking on the icons will deliver you to the respective issue. If your subscription covers the issue shown in the icon, you will be able to access it after the prompts for your log-in information.

Q: Will I need to download special software to see my digital subscription?
A: While a custom application does not need to be installed on your system you will need a web browser and have Adobe Flash player installed. It is also recommended that a broadband connection be used while using the flip book version of Digital Plus. This is especially true if you wish to utilize the full multimedia benefits, including video and audio.

Q. What about cookies?
A. Please note that our site and the site used to distribute Digital Plus (mygazines.com) do use cookies. We do not use cookies for gathering information about you however. In our case the cookies are used as a security feature to verify who you are once you log in and try to download a file. You will not be able to download the issue files if you do not have cookies enabled.

Q: Is a PDF download available for Digital Plus and how do I access it?
A: Yes, you may download a PDF version of each issue and store it on your system. To download the PDF click on the button with the Adobe Acrobat icon in the tool bar of the online reader. You'll then be prompted to begin the download process.

Q: How long will each issue of Digital Plus be posted for viewing/downloading?
A: Each issue will be available to subscribers for a period of approximately 90 days.

Q: How will I know when a new issue of Digital Plus is available?
A: Circuit Cellar will email Digital Plus subscribers when a new issue becomes available. If you should miss this notification, check back at this page and look for the icon for the latest issue available. We are using Campaigner to send out the notifications so we suggest you whitelist the cmpgnr.com domain in your e-mail client or service. Campaigner is a highly regarded and secure e-mail service with a very strict anti-spam policy.

Q. Do I get unlimited downloads?
A. There are no limitations to the number of times you may download the PDF version of Digital Plus or view the flip book version of Digital Plus within an issue’s scheduled posting time period of 90 days.

Q. Why isn’t your site secure? I don't want to enter my information and credit card data through an insecure system!
A.
Actually, our system is secure but because there are a couple of servers involved and we use iFrames on our main web site it appears at first glance that the subscription forms are not secure. Here's how you can verify the security of the subscription forms:

Using IE
Right click on the page in the area of the form itself. Right clicking over the navigation areas will not give you the correct information. Select “Properties” from the list. The Connection and Address information, along with the Certificates button, will show you that the form secure.
Using Firefox
Right click on the page in the area of the form itself. Right clicking over the navigation areas will not give you the correct information. Select “This Frame” and then “View Frame Information.” The address for the frame will show “https” signifying that this is a secure connection.

Q: How do I change my Digital Plus login information?
A: To change your e-mail address, mailing address, or password simply click on the "Renew/Update Subscription" link on the left side of this screen. On the page that appears you can enter your e-mail address and password to log into your account. Print subscribers can enter the customer number found on their mailing label. Once logged in you'll see links for changing your mailing address and for your e-mail and password.

Q: I've forgotten my password, how can I retrieve it?
A: To have your password e-mailed to you click on the "Renew/Update Subscription" link on the left side of this screen. On the page that appears you'll see a link that says “Forgot your password? Click here.” Click on the link. You must enter the e-mail address associated with your subscription. The system will e-mail your password to the address we have for you in our database.

Troubleshooting
Q: I enter my username/e-mail address and password, hit Enter, and nothing happens – what's wrong?
A: Due to the way the application works you must click on the Login button. Pressing Enter doesn't complete the entry in this case. The same goes for downloading a PDF.

Q: Why can't I get the viewer to work right when I'm using Safari?
A: There seems to be a problem with the way Flash and Safari work when it comes to the Mygazines application. Sometimes you can't log in, sometimes you can't download the PDF, and sometimes the cursor disappears. We recommend using Firefox if you are running a Mac.

Q: I log in but the viewer never finishes loading. What's wrong?
A:  This is generally related to the Flash application being blocked and is seen most often by people running Firefox. If you are using Firefox check your add-ons/extensions for Adblock and Flashblock. The original Adblock extension does not handle Flash pages correctly. See #14 at http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/wiki/faq. If you have this extension installed you should remove it, not just disable it, and then install Adblock Plus which does handle Flash correctly.

If you have Flashblock installed and enabled you'll need to whitelist mygazines.com in order to access the viewer properly.

Q: I'm using IE, why doesn't the PDF download?
A:  When using IE to download the PDF you have to go through an additional step due to Microsoft security precautions. When you initially click on the Download PDF button, you'll see a yellow bar at the top of the screen warning you that IE has blocked this site from downloading to your computer. You'll need to click on the bar and select Download File. Once you've done this the bar will disappear and the viewer will reload. You'll need to click the Acrobat button once again and click “download” when prompted to actually start the download at this point.

Q: Ok, I've followed the instructions in the previous answer but the download appears to go on forever or hangs. Now what?
A:  Once the download process starts Windows should be asking if you would like to open the PDF or save it to disk. If this question does not appear you'll need to do the following if you are running XP.

1) Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)
2) On the Tools menu, click Folder Options
3) Click the File Type tab, find the PDF extension and click on it. Then, click on Advanced.
4) Make sure the Confirm Open After Download check box is cleared.
5) Click OK

This will tell the system to ask you if you would like to open a file immediately or save it first and then let you open it manually. If you are running Vista the process above will not work. To correct the problem you will need to edit your registry. In this case we suggest you fully research the change necessary to understand the implications of editing your registry.

Q: I've downloaded the PDF but Acrobat says it's corrupt and the file is very small
A:  This problem seems to happen occasionally and we're looking into it but we believe the problem is caused by a transmission error. If this happens please note the size of the corrupted file and try downloading it again. If the problem happens repeatedly please contact us at eeinfo AT circuitcellar.com with the corrupt file sizes so we can document the problem and try to resolve it.
